When Rana Daggubati strode in wearing a Neeta Lulla suit as the show stopper at the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour in the city, the crowds went wild.
The star's beefed up body, with his toned muscles and broad shoulders, screamed only one thing - 'Baahubali'.
The first thing we ask when we catch up with Rana is whether this is his look for the much talked about Rajamouli film 'Baahubali'. "Yes, definitely! It's an epic film and it requires this look and so I have worked hard for it... That's what I'm paid for," he jokes.
Director Rajamouli's dream project 'Baahubali' is being made with a budget of Rs 100 crore. How is it working with the director? "It has been a great experience and I'm loving it on the sets," says Rana, adding, "We (Prabhas, Anushka and Rajamouli) have become sort of an extended family. We have been living together on the sets for months now."
And that's true as the shoots often go beyond 24 hours. "Well, that's the drill, and it's going to continue till we finish shooting," says the star.
Rana has been a part of quite a few action movies, but has not done a romantic film in a long time. Any reasons? "People want to see me in action roles. If there is any other role that I'm offered I'll take that up as well."
From Tollywood to Bollywood, the actor has set his mark on a national level with movies like 'Dum Maaro Dum', 'Department' and a cameo in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'. When we ask him whether the rumours that he'll also be seen in the SRK-starrer 'Happy New Year' are true, the actor says, "Happy New Year? What Happy New Year? No, no, no...I'm not in the film. They are all just rumours."
But hasn't he replaced John Abraham in the film? "Hey, I didn't even know John was going to do the film," says Rana.
He has recently bought an apartment in Mumbai, does this mean that he is shifting base to Bollywood? "Not really; I visit Mumbai too often and I was tired of living out of a hotel. Even if it is Taj Lands End, it is a hotel after all. So I just bought an apartment in Juhu with a friend. At least now I have a home to go to when I am in Mumbai," he says.
The actor, who is also producing a couple of Bollywood movies, says, "I can tell you about one of them. It is a remake of a Tamil film on cricket called 'Chennai 600028'. We haven't yet zeroed in on a name though."
A busy star till 2015, his two movies 'Rudhramadevi' and 'Baahubali' will take up most of his time. We ask him if there are any Bollywood ventures in the future that he will be a part of. "It's a busy time ahead for me and I really don't see anything else till 2014 end at least, but talks are on."
Two of his Bollywood movies starred Deepika Padukone. Will we get to see the two in a longer scene? "Well, in 'Dum Maaro Dum' I didn't shoot with her. And in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', it was for a really short time. There's nothing as of now. But if there's a chance, why not?"
And any plans of marriage?
"No. When I am getting married, you'll definitely get to know because I'll first Tweet about it," the actor says, adding, "I'm now looking forward to celebrating Diwali."
